Weight Loss Tip 4 – ChangeYour Drinking Habits (Finale)

Just Say No to Excessive Fizz and Sugar

Carbonated sugary drinks, coffee, black tea and pasteurized, bottled fruit juices are also not your friend, period! But especially so if you are trying to lose weight.

Caffeinated beverages are diuretics (they make you lose water) – so for every cup you consume – your body will need to let go of 2 cups of water (in sweat or urine) just to get rid of it.  So if you drink coffee, black tea or caffeinated sodas (like coke) you will need to drink twice as much just to not get dehydrated.

Such drinks also contain excessive sugars (which feed cancer) and non-nutritive calories which contribute to weight gain.

When you desire something other than water to excite your palate – try drinking fresh squeezed vegetable and fruit juices (known fat busters and cancer fighters because they have fresh enzymes, cleansing properties and a ton of antioxidants and absorbable, pure, vitamins and minerals.)

Herbal teas like rooibos, ginger and mint or mildly caffeinated teas like green tea and yerba mate (both of which have weight loss properties to be discussed in a future blog) are ideal substitutes.  Even if you choose to sweeten these with honey, stevia or a little bit of sugar – you are still better off than drinking a soda.  Eventually you will enjoy the taste without any sweetener.  Fresh herbs that you grow in your garden, like rosemary, lavender, sage, mint, lemon balm and basil also make nice teas (just add hot water and enjoy) as do simple things like lemon and orange rinds.
