On 30 March 2013, Afrimarque Events – an events company based in Brisbane and Melbourne, Australia will be hosting its Annual “Embrace on Talent Music & Arts Fiesta”. Afrimarque Events recently announced that it will be reaching out to support the marginalized cancer patients which the ECCT is supporting through the Sponsor a Cancer Patient campaign by donating some of the proceeds from the event. This event brings together talented youth who are involved in organising and performing within it. The youths from various African background communities in Brisbane, including Zimbabwe, Kenya, Tanzania, Sudan and Botswana are being mentored by key people in AfriMarque Events and supported by the Queensland African Communities Council.
The mentorship includes activities such as leadership and event coordination workshops prior to the big day on 30 March. On asking the Founder of Afrimarque Events, Fraser Mutumwa, why this event came about, he said, ” this event originated as an annual event after the team and I saw the need for a community based event that not only showcases the talent of the African youths of Brisbane, but to also establish some sort of work experience for youths that have acquired tertiary education. We want to focus on giving these youths invaluable work experience because it is often required when job hunting. This event thus serves as work experience for many participants and has helped them gain employment or excel in their areas of interest.”
The youths are coming from an array of creative and sporting backgrounds which include graphic design, acting, sound engineering, photography, music, videography and sport coaching. And why is Afrimarque Events supporting the ECCT? Fraser Mutumwa stated, “with cancer now the leading cause of death globally and within numerous countries in Africa, including Zimbabwe – there is a heightened need to educate the African community, within and outside of Africa about how real cancer is and the importance of early detection methods such as screening for various cancers. We want to assist the efforts that the ECCT is making for the five families it is supporting in Zimbabwe.”
The ECCT is honoured that Afrimarque Events is reaching out to support the five marginalized cancer patients that we are supporting in Zimbabwe. Furthermore, we believe in supporting sustainable methods of helping people to empower themselves, which Afrimarque Events is actively doing by mentoring Brisbane youths through this event. This ties in with ECCT’s current working initiatives, in which we are assisting the teenage and older children of the cancer patients we are supporting to get educated and to gain employment to support themselves and their families.
ECCT is also a family-oriented organisation as our work focuses specifically on supporting families afflicted with cancer, thus we support Afrimarque Events’ supplementary aims which hone in on important aspects of family life. Those aims include creating entertainment in which the whole family can participate and enhancing the social skills of young people as they engage in outdoor activities.
For the Embrace on Talent Music & Arts Fiesta, all sponsorship and advertising opportunities for companies wishing to market their brand and awareness to the African communities of Queensland is very much welcome.
