It’s 2013 and the Melbourne Marathon Festival is taking place yet again on Sunday 13 October. In October 2012, we had 5 runners from all over Australia participate in various races in the Melbourne Marathon Festival. The Founder of the ECCT, Teurai Chanakira ran in the 10km race along with Tamara Banda, both living in Melbourne. In the half marathon (21.1km), was Terance Makoni, who lives in Cairns and Martin Bibi, who lives in Sydney. Taziona Banda participated in the 5km race. Together they were sponsored by friends and family and raised $1935 for the ECCT patients. Read about their achievement here.
This year, we invite people from all over Australia to participate in this event on Sunday 13 October 2013 by contacting us to register your interest, which entitles you to become one of the global family members of the ECCT community. To participate in any of the races in the Melbourne Marathon Festival 2013, we ask that you tell your friends, family and work colleagues about your race and ask them to sponsor you for any amount. All funds will go to support the five cancer patients who the ECCT are supporting through the Sponsor a Cancer Patient Campaign 2013 and will go to pay for some of the medical costs for the patients and school fees for one child per family.
In the spirit of Mothers Day in Australia, in honour of her mother’s memory, and in support of the cause that she deeply believes in for marginalized cancer patients in Zimbabwe, the Founder of the ECCT – Teurai Chanakira – has officially registered for the 10km race.
In the last week, the ECCT Team has been paying for school fees for 5 children. We can confirm that two children are already back in classes this week. Marcia, the daughter of Rejoice – one of the patients we are supporting is back in Grade 4 at Hatcliffe 1 Primary School and Tanyaradzwa, the sister of Virimayi, one of the patients we are supporting is back in Form 2 at Zimburi Secondary School.
Besides doing something to get fit for a worthy cause, there will also be fantastic prizes for those who raise the most. Our first official sponsor is Naturally Trim, Australia – a company founded by Paapa Kweku, one of Australia’s leading Health & Fitness Experts.
The top five participants who fundraise the most will be awarded with one month of unlimited and most sought after bootcamp fitness sessions run by Paapa Kweku in Melbourne, Australia with each pass valued at $240.
5 of the runners will receive the following benefits:
– achievement of health, fitness and wellbeing goals through a range of cardio, boxing, resistance and team orientated exercises;
– fortnightly body composition readings, aligning your goals to your objectives;
– have loads of fun with like-minded people, whilst boosting self-confidence and physical fitness;
