Hope Beyond Cancer Evening 2013: Meet JoysSoul Music

This Friday, 11 October 2013 – the five patients the ECCT is supporting and patients connected to the Cancer Association of Botswana will be supported in an inspirational and hope-filled evening to be held at Maurice Blackburn Lawyers in Melbourne, Australia. You may have read our latest blog on the details of the evening here and as we draw nearer to the night – we will be posting features on those deeply involved with the event.

We have already introduced you to our honourable Guest Speaker, Dr. Sheila Tlou, one of our performers – Quashani Bahd and the next inspirational person who will be serenading us and also hosting the auction is Melbourne based singer, JoysSoul. JoysSoul is originally from Kenya. Having lived in Australia for thirty years, she has also been in the Music Industry for the same amount of time. She sings and writes Soul and House music. JoysSoul is multi-talented and is the Founder/Designer of a jewellery business – JoysSoulCrafts. She imports fair trade handcrafts and jewellery from Kenya, then designs and creates African inspired jewellery in Melbourne.

When we asked Joys why she decided to be a part of the Hope Beyond Cancer Evening, she said, “I was inspired by seeing the great work Sharon Orapeleng – President of the Queensland African Communities Council – who is hosting the event with Teurai Chanakira (ECCT Founder) does for our community both in Australia and back in Africa. I’ll be singing two dance tracks – ‘Power To Be’ – a song about working together for a brighter future and being there for one another. I’ll also sing ‘Beautiful Life’ – a love song. Both are album tracks for my upcoming EP JoysSoul”.
In terms of what Joys feels marginalized cancer patients in Africa need the most, she says, “personally I feel education is a key component. This is one of the things that the ECCT is providing for some of the children of the patients they are supporting. Knowledge is power to change mindsets and educate others. In addition, easier access to medical care, after care and  education is needed all over Africa.”
And are there any exciting upcoming projects we should look out for? Joys says, “I’ll be travelling to the Miami Winter Music Conference to perform several of my songs. Catch me on Joyssoul by clicking here to find out more exciting news and upcoming gigs. I’ll also be performing with my DJ band – Magic House at the Flemington Racecourse on Stakes Day in the Myer Marquee.  So if you’re there don’t miss out on a great show!
