Hope Beyond Cancer Evening 2013: AFL Player Majak Daw Donates Signed Jersey

The day has come! It’s Friday 11 October 2013 and the five patients the ECCT is supporting and patients connected to the Cancer Association of Botswana will be supported tonight in an inspirational and hope-filled evening to be held at Maurice Blackburn Lawyers in Melbourne, Australia. You may have read our blog on the details of the evening here and for the past two weeks, we have been posting exciting updates about the night.

Tonight, we will also have an exciting auction featuring a beautiful art pieces donated by artists MsBadu Art (Melbourne), Nelson Nyangole (Perth) and an anonymous Melbourne based artist. The auction will also feature unique African-inspired neck pieces donated by Kalahari Designs and Vanhu Vamwe.

We are also excited to announce that one of our biggest items will be a signed jersey donated to the event an Australian Football League (AFL) sensation Majak Daw who became the first Sudanese Australian to be drafted to an AFL club when he was contracted to the North Melbourne Football Club in the 2009 AFL draft. Originally from Khartoum, Sudan – Majak fled the civil war with his family and resettled in Melbourne in 2003. He is a hero to many African Australian young people and has the brightest future with AFL.
