This Friday, 11 October 2013 – the five patients the ECCT is supporting and patients connected to the Cancer Association of Botswana will be supported in an inspirational and hope-filled evening to be held at Maurice Blackburn Lawyers in Melbourne, Australia. You may have read our latest blog on the details of the evening here and as we draw nearer to the night – we will be posting features on those deeply involved with the event and the special guests we will have.
Last week we introduced you to our honourable Guest Speaker Dr. Sheila Tlou, who is the Director of the UNAIDS Regional Support Team for East and Southern Africa since October 2010. Dr. Tlou is a former Member of Parliament and former Minister of Health of the Republic of Botswana (2004-2009).
We are also honoured to have a VIP Guest attending the event – His Excellency Mr. Molosiwa Selepeng who is the first and current Botswana High Commissioner to Australia. Mr. Molosiwa was appointed to this role by His Excellency the President Lieutenant General Seretse Khama Ian Khama in 2003. He is also the High Commissioner of Botswana to New Zealand, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Samoa.
Overtime the High Commissioner built an excellent relationship between Botswana and Australia as evidenced by a variety of joint venture projects and high level exchange visits between the two countries. His role carried significant importance in the conclusion of a Plan of Action on Cooperation between Botswana and Australia, signed by His Excellency President Lt. Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama and Prime Minister Kevin Rudd in March 2010. The Plan serves as an outline of cooperation between the two countries. Prior to his appointment, he served in the Office of the President as Permanent Secretary to the President, Head of the Public Service and Secretary to the Cabinet.
In 1980, Mr. Selepeng was appointed Senior Private Secretary to the President and served both the first President Sir Seretse Khama and former President Sir Ketumile Masire before being appointed as the Permanent Secretary for Political Affairs. Mr. Selepeng is one of Botswana’s long-serving public servants and career diplomats. He has considerable experience in public administration, diplomacy, multilateralism, conflict resolution and the art of negotiation. He is the recipient of the Presidential Order of Honour (PH) in recognition of his efficient and devoted service to the Republic of Botswana.
He is a graduate of the University of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland in Roma, Lesotho. He is married and has five children. In his leisure time, he enjoys spending time with his family, golfing, music and reading.
