Melbourne Marathon 2013: We Did It!

What a busy but fruitful weekend for ECCT and the patients it supports! On Friday 11 October 2013, the Hope Beyond Cancer Fundraising Evening was held in Melbourne (details of how the night went, including pictures will be shared within the next few weeks) and today Sunday 13 October three women took part in the 10km run in the Melbourne Marathon Festival 2013: ECCT Founder Teurai Chanakira, Sydney based Nyarie Matebwe and Melbourne based Chika Edeh. You can read Nyarie’s inspirational story by clicking here and Chika’s story by clicking here. We salute them both as they both lost people very close to them to cancer. Nyarie lost her mother to breast cancer in 2008 and Chika lost her grandmother to pancreatic cancer eight years ago.

We would like to say a big thank you and congratulations to the runners. In support of the patients, Nyarie asked her colleagues and friends to sponsor her and raised $500. Chika supported the patients by raising $350. This money will be used for supporting the patients with food, school fees for their children and some of their medical costs.

Please see the images from their inspirational run below…

Nyarie and Teurai. Well done Nyarie finished her first ever 10km run in 1hr, 7mins & Teurai her second run for ECCT in 45 mins.
