Run for ECCT: Good Luck Rutendo & Lorraine!!

Last week we were happy to tell you that two amazing Zimbabwean based women – RuTendo DeNise and Lorraine Rubaba are participating in the Victoria Falls Marathon, Zimbabwe on 28 June 2015. They are doing this whilst fundraising to support the 4 marginalised cancer patients supported by the ECCT and also in honour and memory of all those Zimbabwean heroes and heroines who have lost their good fight to cancer. Cancer is now the leading cause of death in Zimbabwe – even above HIV/AIDS. This is confirmed by the Zimbabwe National Registy.
Both of these ladies will be running in the half marathon which is a whopping total of 21km. Well…the weekend has arrived!!

Off to Victoria Falls: Rutendo (.R.) on the right with Marshall (left). Both have contributed immeasurable efforts in assisting the ECCT to move forward.

RuTendo DeNise (.R.) is a Zimbabwean Performance Poet, Writer and Full Figure Model (image above). You can visit her Fan Page by clicking here now.

Lorraine Rubaba – is a Co-Founder of the Bootcamp and the Greendale Team Bootcamp Captain (see above). Having thought of the idea to have a bootcamp in the area – Lorraine sought out the services of the fitness trainer who assists the ladies – Coach Thompson.

Rutendo – from the time she started her preparations for the run – always stated that she was not just doing this to help the ECCT patients and their families, but also wanted to honour those Zimbabweans who have battled cancer, won or lost the good fight (see image above). She also specified that noone is obligated to donate in monetary form to sponsor them for the run – but that people can send in names of their loved ones who they want honoured as Lorraine and her run.
Some of the messages which poured in! We salute the fallen Zimbabwean heroes + heroines of cancer.

We were not ready for the overwhelming response of messages sending in stories of how families have battled cancer in Zimbabwe, people wanting their loved ones’ names to be added to the list, gifts in the form of blankets, clothes for the ECCT patients and their families along with monetary donations.
This is surely a disease that has gripped the nation – all of our stories matter. We salute you. And as we surge forward fighting this disease – ECCT’s message is that fitness does matter. With the World Health Organisation stating that most cancers are caused by lack of a healthy lifestyle – this is an area that is crucial for all of us to build up.
We salute Rutendo and Lorraine and wish them luck for the run on Sunday! We will keep you posted on their journey.
